Van Gogh created several drawings of Clasina “Sien” Maria Hoornik in 1882 and 1883. Van Gogh’s drawings of Sien show her as a pregnant woman, as a mother nursing her baby, and working at home sewing or peeling potatoes. These drawings were primarily done in pencil; although, some were created in ink with pen and brush, using China ink or black chalk.
