Van Gogh Museum Has Good 2007

According to artdaily.org, the Van Gogh Museum hosted more than 1.5 million visitors in 2007.  More than half of the visitors are 30 years old or younger, as the museum markets to the younger crowd with events and programming on the weekend.

“Still Life With Gladiolas” Up for Sale

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports van Gogh’s “Still Life With Gladiolas” is up for sale at an antique store in the New Orleans area.  M.S. Rau Antiques has set a price of $9.5 million for the painting, which was created in 1886.

The painting was bought from a private New York collector in November.  It is considered to be in great condition.

Van Gogh Letters on Exhibit

In early January, never-before-exhibited letters from van Gogh to  another artist were shown for public viewing for the first time, according to Smithsonian magazine.  The letters were exhibited at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York.

The letters were sent to a painter 15 years younger than van Gogh.  Van Gogh had met the painter,  Emile Bernard, in Paris.

Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” Top Oil Painting of 2007

Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night” was ranked as the top oil painting of 2007, according to OverStockArt.com. The web site sold more “Starry Night” paintings than any other oil painting.

Also ranking in the top 10 were van Gogh’s masterpieces “Cafe Terrace at Night” (ranked No. 3) and “Branches of an Almond Tree in Blossom” (ranked No.  9).
